Offered here is a rare and unusual table medal from the Verein der Hundefreunde von München und Umgebung(Association of Dog Enthusiasts of Munich and Surroundings), affiliated with the Reichsverband für das Deutsche Hundewesen (R.D.H.), the official umbrella organization for dog breeding and canine associations during the Third Reich.
The obverse features the Munich city emblem – the Münchner Kindl within the city gates – surmounted by the national eagle and swastika, symbolizing the integration of local associations into the Reich structure. The inscription reads: “Verein der Hundefreunde von München und Umgebung – Ortsgruppe des R.D.H.”
This large non-portable medal measures 45 mm in diameter and weighs 27 grams. It comes housed in its original red presentation case with felt lining, which has preserved it beautifully over the decades.
