For sale is an extremely rare WWII German large meat platter, manufactured by Johann Haviland Bavaria in 1941. This exceptional piece is in excellent condition and features the highly distinctive Kriegsmarine Technical Service emblem on the front.
The emblem – showing an anchor, torpedo, gears, and compass – symbolized the naval yards, engineering, and technical services of the German Navy. Unlike standard Luftwaffe or Wehrmacht porcelain, this special insignia was reserved for naval yard and technical institutions, making such items exceptionally scarce.
Interestingly, the underside of the platter carries a Luftwaffe acceptance stamp. This is not unusual: porcelain production and distribution during the war were highly centralized. Factories such as Johann Haviland often stamped items with Luftwaffe acceptance marks as part of the supply system, even when the final pieces were allocated to other organizations like the Kriegsmarine technical services. This dual marking highlights the complex logistics of wartime production and makes the platter even more unique.
Large serving pieces such as this were likely used in officers’ messes at Kriegsmarine yards, adding both rarity and historical significance.
A genuine piece of museum-quality WWII porcelain, this platter is not only a collectible but also a truly unique survivor of wartime naval history.
