This is an original German mess kit (Kochgeschirr) dated 1941, marked WAL 41 on the body. It still retains parts of its original field-grey paint, showing honest wear from use in the field. On the lid, a name or marking was scratched in by the soldier, though it has become illegible over time – a very personal trace of its wartime history.
