This is a rare and evocative lot of four original Dutch newspapers from the Second World War, offered together as one set. These newspapers provide a direct, unfiltered glimpse into daily life, propaganda, censorship, and public messaging in the Netherlands during the final phase of the German occupation and the immediate aftermath of liberation.
Included in this lot:
-
Dagblad van het Zuid – Monday, 4 September 1944
Issued just days before the liberation of large parts of the southern Netherlands, featuring occupation-era announcements and regulations. -
Eindhovensch Dagblad – Tuesday, 17 October 1944
A historically significant regional paper published shortly after the liberation of Eindhoven. -
Volk en Vaderland – Friday, 27 October 1944
The official National Socialist (NSB) newspaper, representing German-aligned propaganda during the occupation. -
Het Parool – 1945
A post-liberation issue of the famous Dutch resistance newspaper, reflecting the transition from occupation to freedom.
Condition:
- All newspapers are original wartime or immediate post-war issues, not reproductions
- Paper shows expected age-related wear, such as toning, light creasing, and fragile edges
- Overall condition is good and very presentable for documents over 80 years old
Historical significance:
These newspapers together tell a powerful story: from occupation and collaboration, through liberation, to resistance and recovery. As a combined lot, they form an exceptional mini-archive illustrating the complex reality of wartime Netherlands.
