Original WWII German SS Tropical Sleeve Eagle with RZM Tag

Offered here is an original German WWII SS tropical sleeve eagle, a highly desirable and scarce piece of wartime uniform insignia. This example is machine-woven (BeVo-style) in yellow/gold thread on a dark blue/black cloth backing, as intended for wear on tropical uniforms issued to SS personnel serving in warmer climates.

Description

The eagle displays the classic SS pattern, with finely executed wings and central wreath, woven with great precision. The reverse still retains its original RZM paper tag, marked “Reichszeugmeisterei der NSDAP” and bearing the SS runes, confirming official period manufacture and distribution. Surviving SS insignia with intact RZM tags are exceptionally uncommon.

The patch shows honest wear consistent with age, including minor fraying at the edges and loose threads, but remains structurally sound. The colors are still clearly visible, and the weave pattern is sharp, making this a strong and convincing example.

Historical Context

SS tropical insignia were produced in very limited numbers compared to standard European uniform insignia. They were intended for use in Mediterranean and other warm-climate theaters, and many were lost, worn out, or destroyed during and after the war. Because of this, original SS tropical eagles—especially with original RZM tags still present—are among the rarest categories of SS cloth insignia.
