Rare WWII German Luftschutz flat rim “Gladiator” Helmet – RL-2 39/21

Offered here is a rare and highly desirable original WWII German Luftschutz flat rim “Gladiator” helmet, officially designated RL-2 39/21. This early civil air defense helmet was produced for the Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB)and represents one of the most iconic helmet designs of pre-war and early-war Germany.

This example features the correct one-piece steel shell, often referred to by collectors as the Gladiator style due to its distinctive flared brim and ventilation pattern. The helmet retains a well-preserved Luftschutz decal on the front, showing the classic RLB emblem with visible age wear consistent with authentic wartime use.

The interior still has its original leather liner with correct rivets and the original chinstrap, showing honest wear and patina. The shell is stamped RL-2 39/21, confirming official Luftschutz approval and correct period manufacture.

Overall condition is very good for its age, with untouched surfaces, original paint, and no post-war alterations. A scarce and increasingly hard-to-find helmet, especially in this complete and unmolested state.
