This is an original German WW2 M31 aluminium canteen (Feldflasche), complete with its original felt cover, aluminium cup, aluminium screw cap, and leather carrying straps. The canteen body is clearly maker marked “RFI 39”, indicating production in 1939 by Rudolf Fissler KG, Idar-Oberstein, a well-known and respected wartime manufacturer.
The aluminium cup remains firmly attached to the canteen via the original leather retaining strap. The “Ritter Aluminium – D.R.G.M.” marking is stamped on the aluminium clip, which is fully correct for this manufacturer and configuration. The screw cap itself is made of aluminium and remains intact.
The brown felt cover is original and shows honest field use. There is a small hole in the felt, consistent with wartime wear and age. Stitching, shape, and hardware are correct, including the original snap fastener with star-pattern detail.
The leather carrying strap shows a visible tear, but remains firmly attached and functional. All leather components display natural aging and patina but are still structurally sound, with no post-war replacements observed.
Construction details — such as the ribbed aluminium neck, riveted strap mounts, cup attachment system, and material choices — are fully consistent with early-war German Army issue canteens.
Condition is untouched and authentic, with wear, patina, and minor damage fully in line with more than 80 years of age. No repairs, modern alterations, or reproduction parts are present.
A desirable early-war dated example, suitable for advanced collectors, reference collections, or museum display.
