WWII German S-Mine Cutaway (Schrapnellmine 35) – Original Sectioned Training Example
Kan beschikbaarheid voor afhalen niet laden
This is an original WWII German S-Mine (Schrapnellmine 35) presented as a cutaway / sectioned example, clearly showing the internal construction and operating principle of one of the most infamous anti-personnel mines of the Second World War.
The mine is completely inert and deactivated, intended solely for historical, educational, and display purposes. All energetic components have been removed or rendered inactive. What remains is a highly instructive cross-section illustrating the internal layout, including the central igniter channel, spring mechanism, delay elements, and fragmentation charge cavity.
The exterior retains its characteristic yellow-painted steel body, while the exposed cutaway reveals original wartime materials, machining marks, and construction methods. The visible stamped marking “fen 43” on the igniter body is consistent with period German fuse components and shows the year of construction 1943.
Also included are original inert fragmentation pellets, displayed separately to demonstrate the mine’s intended lethal effect without any remaining hazard.

Historical Background
The German S-Mine, often referred to by Allied troops as the “Bouncing Betty,” was introduced in the late 1930s and became one of the most feared infantry weapons of WWII. Upon activation, the mine would jump upward before detonating at waist height, dispersing steel fragments in all directions.
Because of its effectiveness and psychological impact, the S-Mine influenced post-war mine designs worldwide. Original examples—especially cutaway or instructional versions—are increasingly rare, as most surviving mines were destroyed during post-war clearance operations.
Cutaway specimens like this were typically used for training, technical instruction, or factory demonstration, making them especially desirable to collectors and historians.
