About This Item:

In 1942, Germany adopted this special round for training purposes. It was designed for practical shooting at towed aerial targets at short distances (up to 600 meters). The projectile combines an armor-piercing core with a tracer element and a self-destruct feature.

- The cartridge case features a bottle-shaped neck and a ring-shaped extraction groove.
- Inside the bullet jacket, a pointed, short metal core is positioned first, followed by a central explosive capsule (5.5 mm in diameter) encased in a lead jacket.

The explosive capsule contains a detonator housed in a steel casing with a nipple at the bottom, which fits into a recess in the tracer capsule. To distinguish this round from other Mauser ammunition, three-quarters of the projectile is blackened from the tip downward.

The tracer range was limited to 600 meters, and upon complete combustion of the tracer element, the projectile self-destructed via the explosive capsule.
