German Black Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen) – L/16
Couldn't load pickup availability
Offered here is an original WWII German Black Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz), produced by Steinhauer & Luck, identified by the L/16 maker code.
This example is a brass construction variant, a desirable and less common material choice compared to later iron issues. The badge retains a pleasing amount of its original blackened finish, now showing natural wear and brass highlights where the finish has thinned—exactly the kind of honest patina collectors expect from a wartime-used piece.
The reverse features a rounded hinge paired with a rounded catch, both original, well-formed, and period-correct for Steinhauer & Luck production. The pin remains straight and fully functional.
The L/16 maker mark is clearly stamped to the lower left of the helmet on the reverse, a classic and well-documented placement for this manufacturer. All hardware is original and untouched, with no repairs or post-war alterations.
Obverse details remain crisp, with clearly defined helmet, swastika, crossed swords, and laurel wreath. This badge is rated Rarity 3/5, making it a solid mid-scarcity maker-marked example, ideal for collectors seeking variation in materials and hardware types.
