This is a highly unusual and historically significant WW2 porcelain gravy boat manufactured by Hutschenreuther Hohenberg , bearing the emblem of the “Schönheit der Arbeit” (Beauty of Labor) program. This elegant serving piece measures 10 cm in height and 18 cm in width. Items marked for this organization are exceptionally rare, far rarer than Wehrmacht, RAD, or Luftwaffe tableware, as production numbers were extremely limited and most pieces were used in factory dining halls rather than military facilities.

Important Historical Marking – “Beauty of Work”

The underside displays:

  • The beautiful Hutschenreuther Hohenberg crest , with dates 1814–1939 , celebrating the company's 125th anniversary
  • The distinctive cogwheel logo enclosing a swastika, surrounded by:
“Modell des Amtes – Beauty of Work”

“Schönheit der Arbeit” was part of the Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF) and focused on improving workplace conditions, factory cleanliness, lighting, air quality, and employee canteens. Porcelain marked for this department was used in:

  • Factory dining halls
  • Worker training centers
  • Administrative buildings of the DAF
  • Demonstration facilities showcase modern workplace standards

Unlike mass-produced military porcelain, these pieces were issued only to selected facilities that participated in the program, resulting in extreme scarcity today.

Design & Features

  • Elegant dual-spout shape
  • Integrated porcelain base (one-piece design)
  • Clean white glaze typical of pre-war Hutschenreuther craftsmanship
  • Excellent structural condition with no cracks or chips
  • Light peppering of firing specks — typical for 1930s utilitarian porcelain and fully authentic

The flowing lines and refined shape reflect the aesthetic intention of the Schönheit der Arbeit movement: functional objects with clean, modern forms meant to inspire order and efficiency.

Why This Piece is Rare

  • Very few Schönheit der Arbeit dining items survived the war
  • Most were destroyed during Allied bombings of industrial areas
  • Even among surviving pieces, grave boats are almost never seen
  • Collectors of DAF, NSBO, RAD and factory-related organizations consider this one of the hardest porcelain markings to acquire

Condition

Excellent overall condition for an 85-year-old utilitarian serving piece. Glaze remains bright and stable, markings crisp, and the structure undamaged.

An exceptionally rare WW2 “Schönheit der Arbeit” porcelain gravy boat — a top-tier collectible from one of the least encountered Third Reich organizations.
