Couldn't load pickup availability
This is a highly significant and scarce WW2 porcelain serving bowl issued to the FELDA Rhön glider training camp in Stadlengsfeld , dated 1942 , and additionally marked Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD) .
Items with location-specific camp marks — especially from the famous Rhön glider region — are almost never encountered.
The imprint features:
- A WW2 training glider in flight
- The inscription: “FELDA / RHÖN / Stadtlengsfeld / 1942”
- Below it: “Reichsarbeitsdienst” in bold wartime typeface
This bowl was issued to one of the numerous flight, labour, and youth training camps operating in the Rhön, a region widely known for pre-war German gliding culture (Wasserkuppe area) and later integrated RAD/HJ flight training activities.
A Unique Combination of Marks
This piece bridges two highly collectible areas:
- RAD (Reich Labor Service) mess equipment
- Rhön glider training facilities , which historically trained thousands of young men in pre-military aviation skills
Porcelain marked for specific camps — especially with detailed glider imagery — is exceptionally rare and nearly impossible to source.
Large and Impressive Format
- Diameter: approx. 34 cm
- Weight: approximately 2.13 kg
This is a substantial, heavy-duty serving bowl designed for large-scale camp dining halls. The weight alone clearly indicates institutional-grade production, meant for continuous daily use.
Condition
- Strong glaze with age-appropriate wear
- Beautiful patina and period-correct discoloration
- No structural cracks or breaks
- Markings remain crisp and fully legible
- One small original manufacturing flaw (production imperfection) — visible in the photos and typical for wartime utilitarian porcelain
For an 82-year-old utilitarian RAD/camp-issued piece, this condition is remarkable.
Historical Importance
The Rhön region was the heart of German glider culture, with flight schools, competitions and, later, training camps operated under organizations including HJ, NSFK, and RAD.
Items from these facilities rarely survived the war, and almost none carry specific camp names like this example.
This piece likely originates from:
- A RAD-operated training or support unit in Stadtlengsfeld
- A glider camp mess hall providing meals for trainees, instructors, and RAD personnel
Because of the hyper-local marking, this bowl qualifies as a museum-grade artifact from one of the most historically significant training regions of the Third Reich.
