WWII U.S. Coast Guard Emergency Drinking Water Can – Dated 1944
Couldn't load pickup availability
This is an original World War II U.S. Coast Guard Emergency Drinking Water can, clearly marked and dated 1944, placing it firmly in the later wartime period when emergency survival equipment played a crucial role in naval operations.
The can is prominently stenciled “EMERGENCY DRINKING WATER” and bears the official U.S. Coast Guard approval marking No. 160.026/22/0, confirming its acceptance for maritime emergency use. It was manufactured by MacDonald–Bernier Co., Boston, Mass., a known wartime contractor.
Remarkably, this example is still sealed and retains its original water contents, an extremely scarce feature. Most surviving cans are empty due to leakage, corrosion, or post-war disposal of contents. The exterior shows honest wartime wear, surface oxidation, and patina consistent with prolonged storage and age, while all markings remain clearly legible.
These cans were intended for lifeboats, life rafts, and emergency survival kits, providing a critical source of potable water for shipwrecked or stranded personnel.
